Hot off the press!
It can be tough to immerse yourself in a language when you don’t have an actual opportunity for immersion! That’s why you need to think outside the box and find ways to create your own language learning environment.
An easy way to immerse yourself is by reading the news in the language you want to learn. Here are some tips:
- Scan the headlines: You don’t need to read every article, so scan the headlines to see what articles might interest you the most. If you are pretty new to language learning, this step alone might be enough. You can acquire new vocabulary and find out what’s going on in countries that speak the language you are trying to learn.
- Read an article all the way through: After scanning the headlines, choose an article that interests you to read all the way through. Reading all the way through will help you get a feel for the subject matter and the voice of a native speaker.
- Learn some vocabulary: Make a short list of words that you don’t know and make an effort to use them during the week.
To make this even easier for you, here are some links to great newspapers in the language you want to learn.
German: Der Spiegel
French: Le Monde
