Welcome to our favorite series – #meettheteacher ! Today we are excited to introduce you to Sarah, one of our German teachers. She is absolutely amazing! A very professional and patient teacher. After trial lessons, we have received messages like: “Thank you so much for connecting me with her!” So happy to have her on our team!
Meet Sarah!
What is your name? My name is Sarah.
What languages do you teach? I teach German.
How long have you been teaching? On and off for around 7 years.
What is your favorite place in the world?
I have three:
1. Ghana, the place of my ancestors.
2. Germany, where my close friends and family are.
3. Wherever my daughter is.
What is the best moment you’ve ever had while teaching? I don’t think I can pin it down to one particular moment, but sometimes you can really feel how the language suddenly “clicks” with someone and they grasp a concept or a new word or are finally able to express something they’ve been working on for a long time. That’s a special kind of feeling. Another one is when a student passes an exam I’ve helped them prepare for and they thank me for my help. That’s like a proud mommy kind of moment.
One of the best ways to learn a new language is through media. Can you recommend some movies, podcasts, or books that would help language learners learn German? Sure. I use and recommend these websites quite often because I think they have amazing resources:
– Deutsche Welle
– Goethe-Institut
– YouTube Channels: fröhlich deutsch, easy german
Also
– Movie: “Dark” on Netflix
– Books: a polyglot student of mine that has been very successful with language learning usually recommends reading your favorite book in whichever new language you are trying to learn. That way you kind of know the story already and can understand a lot through context but you learn new words as you go along.
